Sports Physio – Adelaide
Sports Physiotherapy requires a nuanced understanding of the sports, the muscles most at risk and standard physiotherapeutic practices. Hence, only a few experts are able to provide Sports Physiotherapy at a comprehensive and effective scale.
Sports physiotherapy is primarily focused on preventing, treating and rehabilitating sports injuries. We understand the key demands of your sport. Plus, we are cognizant about your long-term and short-term goals. Along with this, we pay a microscopic attention to your existing and past medical conditions. We do all of this even before starting with full-fledged physiotherapeutic exercise module.
Our focus is on these four areas:
- Injury-Specific Treatment and Rehabilitation
- Sport-Specific Conditioning
- Monitoring and Prevention
- Performance Enhancement
Here is how we can help you with each specialized area.
Injury-Specific Treatment and Rehabilitation
Acute sports injuries call for early intervention. Timely intervention of an expert with the right technique can help an athlete significantly shorten the recovery period. We begin our process with Manual Therapy practices like soft tissue techniques, joint mobilisation & manipulation, acupuncture and dry needling. Our agenda is to minimize and eradicate pain while restoring optimal muscular function.
Here are some common sports injuries we can help you with:
Ligament Injuries | Muscle/Tendon Strains/Tears | Joint Injuries | Overuse Injuries |
Knee ACL Injuries Including Non-Surgical /Surgical Rehabilitation | Hamstring & Calf Strains | Shoulder Dislocations | Achilles Tendinopathy |
Ankle Sprains | Rotator Cuff Tears | Patellofemoral Pain | Patellar Tendinopathy |
| Back & Neck Strains | Meniscal Tears | Plantar Fasciitis |

| Hip Impingement | Iliotibial Band Tightness |

| Stress Fractures |
Sport-Specific Conditioning
A key error made by athletes and professional coaches is providing insufficient recovery time for the body, between injury alleviation and the return to the field. Most athletes push their body to the brink of its limits. This makes the body vulnerable to injuries. At the same time, during the recovery phase, the body should not be going through the athletic demands of sports. Hence, in conjunction with the client, we run a Sport-Specific Conditioning for the entire body and not just the injured area. This helps you ensure that when you return to the field, your physical performance is still at par if not better, as it was before the injury.
Prevention & Monitoring
To most of us, an injury means time off from work and family. For athletes, it can be more severe than that notion. They run the risk of permanent impact on their optimal performance. Since this will impact their entire life, it is critically important to monitory, flag and prevent injuries or fatigue in any form.
Here are some of the plans we undertake to help you do exactly this:
- Functional Exercises Designed for Specific Sports and Targeting Specific Injuries
- Recovery Strategy Development
- Training Load Impact Monitoring and Adjustment, If Necessary
- Thorough Analysis, Feedback and Corrections Provided for Body Mechanics
- Taping and Bracing
Performance Enhancement
Beyond the injury recovery and rehabilitation, athletes turn to training grounds for enhancing their performance. While their goals are bent towards better gameplay, we take a more analytical approach. We help you utilize your injury downtime by giving you a comprehensive analysis of the possible or already existing inefficiencies that are stopping you from performing at your best. We can conduct this analysis for your entire physique or target it towards specialized area as per preliminary tests. Once we have these possible laggards flagged, we can start working on devising a plan to optimize their efficient mobility, agility and strength.
